Spectrum Course - for parents and carers of children aged 8 and over - Northampton | Abington Bowls Club | martedì, 10. settembre 2019

This course is for parents and carers of children living in Northamptonshire with social communication difficulties and/or Autism, aged 8 to 19.
This is a 6 week course held on Tuesday mornings from 9.30am to 11.30am on the following dates:

10th September 2019

17th September 2019

24th September 2019

1st October 2019

8th October 2019

15th October 2019

The venue is fully accessible.
Parking is available on the roadside.
We are offering two ***** places per child, if both parents/carers are not able to attend then one parent can bring another ***** along (this could be a relative or a friend). However we do ask that the same people attend all of the sessions, if possible.
There are 6 sessions and we ask for your attendance at all sessions.
There are no facilities for children and the course content is not suitable for children or young people.
The topics covered are shown below.
Week 1 - Introduction to  Autism: What is an Autism Spectrum Disorder and what are the associated   difficulties
Week 2 - Communication and Introducing Visual Supports - Looking at areas of communication:   Understanding of language, Expressive language
Week 3 - Joint Attention and Social Interaction - Attention and social understanding and how that impacts on social interactions
Week 4 - A representative from Northamptonshire's Information, Advice and Support Service will be discussing Special Educational Needs support in education.  We will speak about the relevant legislation to child with autism in education, help you to understand your rights and discuss relevant support  strategies that can be used in school based on the strategies learnt in the   last 3 weeks.
Week 5 - Understanding  Behaviour - To help you understand your child’s behaviour and introduce some  practical strategies to effectively support behaviour and building on the most suitable practical strategies to effectively support behaviour
Week 6 - Emotional Literacy and Consolidation – Understanding how to help children and young people with Autism learn what emotions are, how they feel and what they can do when they feel them as well as consolidating everything learnt so far.
